AMD is now experiencing a situation similar to the cable melting problem in Nvidia’s newly introduced RTX 40 series. Heating problems arose in the new graphics card (RX 7900 XTX) released by the company.
After weeks of complaints, AMD has finally announced that the high temperatures and unexpected slowdowns on Radeon RX 7900 XTX cards are a matter of thermal solutions.
AMD Radeon RX 7900 starts to get hot
AMD acknowledged that some Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics cards have thermal issues with GPU temperatures and sensor-read maximum temperatures of up to 110C.
AMD initially explained that 110C is the normal junction temperature. Later, the company realized the problem and stopped its sales and advised users experiencing unexpected thermal problems to contact customer support.
A recent investigation by Roman “der8auer” Hartung (overclocking expert) found that the overheating issues were blamed on the Radeon RX 7900 XTX’s steam room.
It is known that the heating problem is even in Radeon RX 7900 XTX MBA (Made By AMD) cards produced by AMD itself. Because it is known that these cards are in the complaint e-mails from the users.
According to AMD’s official statement, which confirms the problems, the only culprit is thermal paste, as the company “We are working to determine the cause of the unexpected slowdown that some users are experiencing when using AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics cards from AMD. Based on our observations to date, we believe the problem is related to the thermal solution used in the computer. We are committed to resolving this issue for affected cards. It appears that only cards sold by AMD and its partners and AMD-manufactured Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPUs are affected by this issue. Cards with special cooler designs seem safe for now.
