On behalf of the DİSK Board of Directors, Chairman Arzu Çerkezoğlu made a written press statement regarding the February 6 earthquake. Calling for solidarity, Çerkezoğlu made the following statements in his statement:
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of many of our people in the great earthquake that destroyed many cities, especially in Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep, Hatay, Diyarbakır, Adana, Şanlıurfa, Adıyaman, Malatya, Osmaniye and Kilis, and in which 2812 buildings were destroyed according to the first determinations, and we wish the injured a recovery. we are forwarding. Today is the day to increase solidarity. Today is the day to mobilize the solidarity consciousness and accumulation of the working class to heal our wounds.
“ALL DISK MEMBERS HAVE BEEN MONITORED FOR BLOOD DONATION”
After the meetings with our Regional and Provincial representatives in the earthquake zone, the DİSK Board of Directors convened on 6 February 2023 and took the following decisions:
“In order to organize solidarity activities, a crisis desk was set up under the chairmanship of DİSK Deputy Chairman Remzi Çalışkan. A solidarity mobilization has been declared, starting from the workplaces, in order to deliver the emergency supplies needed in the earthquake zone in severe winter conditions to the authorized public institutions. Contacts are made with international trade unions to foster international solidarity. All DISK members were mobilized for blood donation. The delegation consisting of DİSK Chairman and Board of Directors will move to the earthquake zone.”
