University of Trakya Natural Disaster Research and Application Center Deputy Director Assoc. Dr. Moses UludagHe stated that the decrease in the groundwater level hinders the flow of water through rivers.
Uludag, AA correspondent, EdirneHe said that the flow of the rivers in Turkey is lower than the seasonal normals.
Stating that certain conditions must be met in order for the precipitation to mix with the stream, Uludağ stated that the water flows when the groundwater level or soil saturation is at a certain level.
Reminding that some of the precipitation that falls on the earth leaks underground, some of it evaporates, and some of it flows, Uludağ said:
“If the ground water, groundwater level is very low, if the soil has not received precipitation for a long time, the water seeps into the ground more and passes less into the surface flow. In this season, evaporation occurs at every temperature. But in a hot winter, evaporation is more. “The flow decreases. At the moment, the underground water reserves are seriously distressed. Therefore, water cannot be added to the surface flow much and the precipitation only contributes to the groundwater at the moment. It is not enough to meet the dryness of the soil and the need for water.”
Uludag, Tundzha RiverHe stated that while it should have flowed at a flow rate of 100 cubic meters/second in winter, it is at a very low level.
Expressing that Thrace is facing a change in precipitation type, Uludağ said, “Thrace has a continental climate. It is a region with a lot of snowfall. We know that roads were closed in Thrace in 2002 and 2003. We have not seen snow yet this year. Therefore, it is arid. It is an indication that the Thrace farmers, especially the paddy producers, will face serious problems in the coming summer.” he said.
Uludağ stated that in order to use water resources efficiently, the usage habits should be changed and the streams should not be polluted with wastes.
Expressing that the vegetation stages of plant species have changed with climate change, Uludağ said:
“So maturation times change. Temperature demands and water demands may not be met. Our agricultural production pattern is also at risk. Therefore, when we say water management, we should not think of the event as one-dimensional and only water flowing from the fountain or the river, but as a whole. MericThe fact that the flow rate has dropped is only a small part of the problem. It’s a process that triggers many events like a domino.”
In the last measurements in Edirne Meriç RiverThe flow rate of Tunca River was recorded as 261 cubic meters/second, and the flow rate of Tunca River was recorded as 10 cubic meters/second.
