University of Trakya Kırkpınar Faculty of Sports Sciencesi signed a social development program called “Full Accuracy ‘Social Development through Basketball for Girls’ Programme”.
Edirne Municipality, Edirne Provincial Directorate of National Education, Edirne Youth and Sports have participated in the program, which was implemented by Trakya University Kırkpınar Sports Sciences Faculty in order to facilitate the participation of disadvantaged girls, whose first year was completed and who have difficulty in accessing sports opportunities in Edirne, to sports and to contribute to their social development through sports in different fields. Support was provided by the Provincial Directorate and the Sports and Body Movement Association for Social Empowerment. In the program carried out in line with these purposes, Trakya University Kırkpınar Faculty of Sports Sciences lecturer Res. See. Dr. Selcuk Açıkgöz, Edirne Merkez Cumhuriyet Primary School Parent-Teacher Association President Hüseyin Gümüşler, Trakya University Kırkpınar Sports Sciences Faculty Recreation Department students Ceren Kara, Göksu Ezen and İrem Nur Engin gave weekly basketball training and self-efficacy to 25 students from Edirne Cumhuriyet Primary School and Edirne Cumhuriyet Secondary School. Physical activity-based trainings were given on social rights and critical thinking. At the end of the 8-month first year between October 2021 and June 2022, children were taught basic basketball movements in weekly activities and social skills activities were carried out in different areas through body movements in traditional games. In addition, within the scope of the program, the students had the chance to receive training from Ömer Yalçınkaya, the Basketball Branch Manager of Galatasaray, who worked as a Basketball Branch Supervisor in the most important clubs of Turkey and became the ULEB Eurocup Champion.
