Visitors to the museum in the Karaağaç campus of Trakya University (TÜ) are first greeted by the “emperor butterfly”, a species unique to Thrace. Visitors have the opportunity to see animal and plant species in the museum that they cannot see in nature.
Plant and animal specimens, which have been collected for 40 years by Trakya University Science Faculty Biology Department lecturers, are exhibited in Trakya University Natural History Museum.
Wildcats, foxes, water monkeys and various bird species found dead or perished during the treatment are exhibited in the museum, where 53 fish, 47 bird, 65 mammal and 20 amphibian species are exhibited, as well as remarkable findings about wild animals.
Trakya University Natural History Museum Director Özmen Yeltekin told Anadolu Agency (AA) that Thrace is a very rich place in terms of biological diversity.
Emphasizing that all elements of wildlife are very important for the ecosystem, Yeltekin explained that all organisms living in the biosphere are interconnected like the links of a chain.
Yeltekin stated that they exhibited the summary of biodiversity under one roof in the museum in Edirne and offered the chance to see them.
In terms of the wildlife samples of the museum TurkeyExplaining that it is one of the important centers of Turkey, Yeltekin said:
“The museum displays 1923 specimens from 734 species of various invertebrates, insects, molluscs, plants, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. In addition, over 100,000 insect material and nearly 2,000 identified insect species and more than 1,000 skeleton-stuffed There is an international herbarium containing vertebrate specimens and more than 15 thousand plant specimens. In short, we offer the opportunity to see and get to know many wildlife and nature specimens in the museum.”
Yeltekin emphasized that in addition to contributing to the awareness of nature conservation, the museum is also important in terms of introducing and transferring natural wealth to future generations and bringing a new tourism area to the city.

Defne Dumanlı said that she liked the museum, which she came to visit for the first time upon the recommendation of her friend.
Explaining that he likes butterflies the most in the museum, Dumanlı said, “Colors, varieties, they are all very beautiful. It is a must-visit place. I like it very much.”
Sena Kanık, on the other hand, stated that she saw the kinds of animals and plants in the museum that they could not find the opportunity to bury in nature.
Emphasizing that the museum was designed very well, Kanık said, “It is a very nice museum. We felt like we were in nature while we were visiting. We had the opportunity to see animals and plants very closely. I think you should definitely come and see this place.” said.
