CHP Edirne Deputy Okan Gaytancıoğlu visited the producers who have water problems in Karahisar village of Keşan district of Edirne. Gaytancıoğlu said, “There is a very important dam in the Thrace region, the Hamzadere Dam. When completed, it will irrigate 330 thousand decares of land together with the irrigation canals, but the project is currently at 40 percent. It is said, ’90 percent of the money has been paid’, but the activity is not there. For example, although this closed system has been in place for 6 years, it does not give water to the fields. We also researched, one of the people who made this project is a member of the Five Gang. We wonder if he also has something to do with these things. “The fields are waiting for water,” he said.
Okan Gaytancıoğlu met with farmers in Karahisar village of Keşan district of Edirne today. Listening to the problems of the farmers, Gaytancıoğlu said that the producers can plant a second crop after the wheat harvest with irrigation. Gaytancıoğlu said:
“90 PERCENT OF THE MONEY IS TOLD TO BE PAID”

For example, although this closed system has been in place for 6 years, it does not give water to the fields. If the fields were watered, the farmer would have planted canola. He broke the canola. There are walnut thorns, they are watering with tankers. We also researched, one of the people who made this project is a member of the Five Gang. We wonder if he also has something to do with these things. The fields are waiting for water. The farmer wants to earn a second crop of bread and money. He wants to save Turkey from foreign dependency. But in such a concrete way, the iron parts inside are also rotting. Water does not go to the fields either.”
“WE CAN’T IRRIGATION”
One producer, on the other hand, stated that they can plant a second crop with irrigated agriculture and said:
“Water needs to come to the field. We can also plant second crops in these fields. Wheat, we have a chance to plant corn after wheat. We can plant beets, with a higher yield, but we cannot irrigate because closed systems are not working at the moment. If we had water, we would get at least 8 tons of beets if we planted beets here. We have a chance to plant tomatoes, peppers. We can also plant other types of vegetables, our fields are very productive places.”
“BUY PRODUCTS IN HIGH QUALITY”
Another producer said:
“If these closed irrigation systems could be put into use, both me and the farmers planting crops in their fields would not plant with low yields and low weight. We would have bought more products in the products that we are dependent on, our places would be appreciated and we would have saved the farmer from the economic conditions he was in. It would buy high yield crops, the chance of getting a second crop would increase, and the farmer would be making a profit. As you know, our young people in the villages started to leave our villages, thinking that farming does not bring money. We expect these to be received as soon as possible and add value to our region.”
Another producer said, “There is a drought today. It seems that the drought will continue for many years. We want the investments to be completed as soon as possible so that these systems will be completed and agriculture will come out of the drought.”
