Republican People’s Party Edirne Deputy Assoc. Dr. Okan Gaytancıoğlu made a statement on the site of a destroyed factory in Uzunköprü. Explaining the reasons for the migration from Uzunköprü, Gaytancıoğlu said, “Why is the population decreasing in Uzunköprü? Why do our children and young people from Uzunköprü go to Çorlu, Çerkezköy, and struggle to survive there? That’s why. You do not support agriculture, you do not support farmers, if your economy is not truly domestic and national, this will be the result.
“WHY IS THE POPULATION DECREASING IN UZUNKOPRU?”
Gaytancıoğlu stated the following:
“Why is the population decreasing in Uzunköprü? Why do our children and young people from Uzunköprü go to Çorlu, Çerkezköy, and struggle to survive there? That’s because of them. You do not support agriculture, you do not support farmers, if your economy is not truly domestic and national, this will be the result. There was a very large factory here. 600 people were working. Many people from here have retired like our brother. He is entitled to a pension. They worked, they produced, but now look, the winds are blowing in the place of the factory. Is it that hard to support sunflower production, paddy production, wheat production, animal husbandry? Is it that hard to support domestic capital? Of course, it is easy to embrace foreign capital, to be so channeled to the imperialist system, to zero the customs duties. The important thing is to protect domestic capital, to protect producers. It is necessary to protect the local industrialists. This is how we all grieve. There are many more factories like this. Have these factories been replaced by new ones? I’m calling out to those who say they don’t have a planted tree here. Which factories did you open? Who did you employ? I am very curious.”
