“WE WILL NOT LET CONSCIENCES, MERCY AND HUMANITY FAIL”
CHP Kırklareli Deputy Vecdi Gündoğdu made a written press statement about his work in the earthquake zone. Gündoğdu made the following statements in his statement:
“After the earthquakes that took place in Kahramanmaraş at midnight on 06.02.2023 and affected 9 provinces, we reached the earthquake zone in the fastest way despite all the difficulties. We have been continuing our work in disaster areas for days. In particular, we reached the places where the destruction was most severe in our Hatay province, its districts and surrounding regions and where our citizens need support the most. Although 6-7 days have passed since the earthquake; Unfortunately, we observed that the lack of coordination in the first days still continues. We were deeply impressed to see and hear that there are destructions that the rescue teams still cannot reach and cannot intervene.

After our visit to the Kırıkhan District after the center of İskenderun and Hatay, we conveyed our citizens’ intense support and assistance demands to the authorities that our Kırıkhan district also suffered a great destruction. We made a great effort to take the necessary measures quickly by conveying our findings, deficiencies and needs to AFAD and all the rescue teams and authorities immediately.

We conveyed our endless thanks and gratitude to the loyal personnel of our Metropolitan Municipalities, who supported the earthquake victims in earthquake areas in every way, and to all the rescue teams who worked day and night without saying it was cold. In our investigations in the region, we determined that the biggest problem is the low air temperature, which continues to complicate both the work and the lives of our citizens on the streets.

It is of vital importance to solve the housing problem in the earthquake zones as soon as possible, to set up tents, to heat them and to organize food support. After 7 days, unfortunately, the tent and toilet problem in the region still has not been resolved. It is important to act faster in this regard.

We, together with all our deputies, including our president, mayors and volunteer benefactors, are working hard to both help and coordinate aid, identify deficiencies and deliver them to disaster areas within our means.

Our hope; it is to heal the wounds as soon as possible in unity and solidarity, and to take the necessary measures for the next disasters in the fastest way without losing any time. Those responsible are brought to justice as soon as possible.”
