Marmara RegionNovember precipitation in Turkey decreased by 45 percent compared to the long-term average and by 38 percent compared to the same period last year.
AA correspondent general Directorate of Meteorology According to the information compiled from the data of the Marmara Region, the long-term average of the total precipitation in November in the Marmara Region was 71.4 millimeters. The region received 64 millimeters of precipitation in November last year, and 39.6 millimeters in the same month of this year.
Rainfall in the region this November decreased by 45 percent compared to the long-term average and by 38 percent compared to the same period last year.
In the two-month period between October 1 and November 30, 2022, which is in the agricultural season of the region, precipitation decreased by 58 percent compared to normal.
2023 precipitation in the Marmara Region, western Thrace, İstanbul, Canakkale, Bursa with Yalovadecreased by more than 60 percent compared to normal.
“There is a decrease in precipitation between 40 and 60 percent”
Meteorology Engineer, Istanbul Aydin University Dr. Lecturer Güven Özdemir told Anadolu Agency (AA) that in November TurkeyHe said that the precipitation decreased by 21 percent in Turkey and 45 percent in the Marmara Region.
Stating that the precipitation throughout Turkey has been below normal for the last 5 years, Özdemir said, “The wind systems affect our country according to the meteorological conditions in the world. The effect of La Nina (weather event with a lowering effect on the air temperature) has been continuing for almost 2 years. La Nina, September, October and “Unfortunately, the rains had a negative impact in November. In November, the effect of La Nina was seen in the whole of Turkey, especially in the Marmara Region.” he said.
“Drought is at its peak”
Expressing that high pressure was effective with a system without precipitation in November, Özdemir continued his words as follows:
“In November, Mid Mediterrenian Before the low pressure systems coming over the land come to our country, Ege From its shores, it either shifted northward or descended southward. Just the Mediterranean regionWhile some parts of Turkey, parts of Thrace and Marmara regions receive very little rainfall intermittently, Black Sea shores were raining. The decrease in precipitation also affects the hydraulic conditions. The rivers and lakes that feed our country began to receive less water. It has been observed that it has negative effects on irrigation of agricultural areas. As a result, the soil unfortunately could not get enough moisture for agriculture.
The drought is extreme. If there is no water, no fertile soil, it will not be possible to talk about living life. There is a decrease in precipitation between 40 and 60 percent. The increase in the need for water also increases the production cost of water. Bringing water from distant places reveals the need for energy. November was dry compared to last year. in November, Southeastern AnatoliaDrought was higher in . We think that the drought will continue in the coming days. December The month is already dry. Therefore, we must use water well. We need to increase wetlands. There is drought in different parts of the world as well as in our country.
“Our forest areas definitely need to be multiplied”
Stating that drought and the resulting desertification affect 1.6 billion people and other living things in 169 countries, Özdemir said that this situation will cause millions of people to migrate.
Emphasizing that this indicates that a “silent disaster” is at hand, Özdemir said, “Water policies and wars between countries will now be on the agenda. There is a strong need for effective studies and plans for the protection, use and management of soil and water resources. “Our forest areas must be increased in order to reduce the impacts of the disease. Construction should not be allowed in forest areas, pastures, agricultural areas and wetlands.” made its assessment.
