prof. Dr. Kaya warned: Redness and yellowing started due to drought
Weed control warning to farmers who are worried about drought
Drought brought the danger of ‘weed’
EDİRNE – Stating that the driest period of recent years has been experienced in Thrace, University of Trakya Plant Breeding Application and Research Center Director Prof. Dr. Scarstated that weeds due to drought started to form in the wheat during the development period and warned the farmers against redness and yellowing.
The Thracian farmers, who faced a meadow caterpillar infestation last year, are struggling with drought and weeds this year. The fact that weed pesticides do not reach the soil due to drought worries farmers. Considered the capital of agriculture, Thrace is experiencing the driest period of the last roads. Due to the insufficient seasonal precipitation during the planting period, the farmers who plant wheat in dry soil and fertilize expect precipitation for the development period of the product and yield. Drought can cause an increase in weeds as well as diseases and pests.
“There were redness and yellowing”
Noting that there are some difficulties in combating weeds due to drought, Prof. Dr. Kaya stated that the fields were sprayed, but weeds began to form due to drought. Stating that there is no problem in the controlled fields, Prof. Dr. Kaya emphasized that due to the lack of precipitation, weed pesticides could not go down to the soil and there were some redness and yellowing.
Warning to farmers
Warns the farmers to check their fields frequently and to do the weed control in the field well, Prof. Dr. Kaya emphasized that it is necessary to follow up on points such as which weeds are there, which methods can be controlled more effectively, and how they can be controlled most appropriately.
Advice to use nitrate fertilizers
Stating that urea fertilizer is generally used in fertilization, Prof. Dr. Kaya said, “Because urea fertilizer is an inorganic fertilizer, it should rain immediately after you throw the fertilizer. It takes 1 week and 10 days for the urea fertilizer to take effect. If possible, I recommend using nitrate fertilizers directly. Because it is ready to use, I think it will be beneficial in this respect.” .
“Hottest in the last 80 years December we had the moon”
EdirneWhile 88 kilograms of precipitation fell per square meter in February of 2022, 5.2 kilograms of precipitation fell in February 2023 worries the producers. Stating that the hottest December of the last 80 years has been experienced in Thrace, Prof. Dr. Yalçın Kaya stated that the fertilizers thrown due to the lack of precipitation do not melt and this negatively affects the development of wheat.
Stating that there has been an above-normal drought in Thrace this year, Prof. Dr. Kaya stated that winter crops were planted, but it was a difficult process due to insufficient seasonal precipitation. Stating that especially the inner parts of Thrace do not receive any precipitation, Prof. Dr. Kaya stated that in Thrace and Edirne where there is more rainfall, some wheat has started to stick.
Stating that there is no precipitation in winter and that precipitation is most needed, Prof. Dr. Kaya emphasized that the cold air wave coming from the Balkans did not come this year and the rains were less in the form of drizzle.
Underlining that stray wheat needs rain and nitrogen, Prof. Dr. Kaya said that this season has been a very difficult time in terms of precipitation amount.
