University of Trakya Faculty of Letters student Elif Uzunplaced second in the European Union Presidency Young Translators Competition, in which university students from Turkey took part.
The 11th edition of the Young Translators Competition, which has been held by the Presidency for European Union Affairs since 2010 with the participation of senior students studying in the departments of translation-interpretation and translation studies, was held this year. Elif Uzun, a student of Trakya University, Faculty of Letters, Department of Translation and Interpretation, English Translation and Interpretation Programme, achieved an important success in the competition, which was held with the participation of 85 students from 24 universities providing online education.
Competing in 54 English, 16 German and 15 French, the students translated a text of EU legislation. Trakya University student Elif Uzun, who participated in the English category, came in second in the competition organized to increase the awareness of universities and young translators preparing for the profession about Turkey’s accession process to the European Union and to contribute to the training of qualified human resources in this field.
Certificates of achievement will be given to the top three translators in English, French and German at a ceremony to be held later. In addition, students who come first in each language category will be rewarded with a visit to the translation units of EU institutions located in Brussels. The second and third young translators will participate in the “European Union Basic Education Program” at Ankara University, European Communities Research and Application Center.
