EDİRNE – Bulgaria’s Kardzhali Türkan Feyzullah, known as the ‘Türkan baby’, who became a symbol of resistance during the totalitarian regime period after being martyred in her mother’s lap at the age of 17 months in the city, was commemorated in front of her statue in Edirne on the 38th anniversary of her death.
In the commemoration ceremony attended by many compatriots from Bulgaria, the poems recited by the cognate students in memory of Türkan Bebek had emotional moments. While the participants recorded this moment on their phones, they could not hold back their tears from time to time.
Türkan Feyzullah, who was shot and killed by Bulgarian soldiers when he was 17 months old in his mother’s arms during the protest march organized in Mogilyane village in Kırkova district of Kırcaali against the forced assimilation attempt implemented in Bulgaria in 1984, was commemorated in the park bearing his name in Edirne.
