Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ) warned citizens about saving water. In the statement made by İSKİ, “Global climate change and the drought related to it increase the importance of using water economically and efficiently with each passing day. According to the January data of the General Directorate of Meteorology, Turkey is experiencing an extremely dry period, except for a few regions. For the continuity of water supply, usage habits need to be changed in Istanbul as well as in the rest of the world.

“IF WATER IS USED CAREFULLY, THE NEEDS CAN BE FIXED WITH LESS CONSUMPTION”
Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ) issued a statement stating that savings should be made in Istanbul in order not to increase the impact of the drought felt due to global climate change. The following statements were made in the statement made by İSKİ:
“Global climate change and the drought related to it increase the importance of using water economically and efficiently with each passing day. According to the January data of the General Directorate of Meteorology, Turkey is experiencing an extremely dry period, except for a few regions. For the continuity of water supply, usage habits need to be changed in Istanbul as well as in the rest of the world. When water is used carefully, the same needs can be met with much less consumption.
“NEEDED MEASURES ARE TAKEN AT THE POINT OF WATER SUPPLY”
Within the scope of the Water Master Plan studies targeting the year 2053, studies for the planning and commissioning of new water resources for the coming years continue. The Administration, which has saved 60 million cubic meters since 2019 by reducing the loss-leakage rate, has saved 30 million cubic meters of water only in 2022 thanks to the recycling water.

THE CAPACITY OF THE MELEN SYSTEM IS INCREASED
Work within the scope of Melen 3rd Promotion Center is about to be completed. When the works are completed, 735 thousand cubic meters of additional water will be supplied daily from the system. In drinking water investments, 7 billion 600 million liras were invested in 3.5 years, mainly in the construction of 4 new drinking water treatment plants (Ömerli Emirli 2nd Stage, Taşoluk, Şile and Silivri).

CALL FROM BAŞA TO THE PEOPLE OF ISTANBUL
İSKİ General Manager Dr. Şafak Başa, on the other hand, underlined that Istanbulites should also comply with water conservation and said:
“We, as İSKİ, are taking every step in line with the vision drawn by our Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor, Mr. However, it is extremely important for all of us to join hands to limit the effects of climate change and the dry period and change the water usage habits of 16 million Istanbul residents. We have to act now for tomorrow.

When we look at the meteorological data, we can easily see this. Although we are in the rainy season, we cannot get the desired level of precipitation. We are going through an extraordinary period at the point of drought. As İSKİ, we do not leave Istanbul without water with our non-dam resources. However, the sustainability of this situation depends on the efficient use of water by our compatriots.”
