CHP Tekirdag Deputy Dr. Candan Yüceer, regarding the earthquake-proof schools in Tekirdağ, said, “Although we have brought the issue to the agenda with questions, press releases and news many times before, the problem has not been resolved”.
Republican People’s Party (CHP) PM Member, Tekirdağ Deputy Dr. Candan Yüceer once again brought up the problem of earthquake-proof schools in Tekirdağ, which has not been resolved for years. CHP’s Dr. Yüceer said, “Even though we have brought the issue to the agenda with questions, press releases and news many times before, the problem has not been resolved.”
TEACHERS, STUDENTS AND PARENTS ARE VICTIMS
Reminding that the problem started after the Silivri earthquake in 2019, Dr. Yüceer said, “Exactly four years ago, on September 26, 2019, after the earthquake that occurred in the Marmara Sea off the Silivri district of Istanbul, some of the existing schools in Tekirdağ were damaged and the students were transferred to other schools. During the intervening period, the identification, renovation and demolition processes of schools that are not resistant to earthquakes have continued. However, this process took longer and longer. Delays in strengthening or renovating schools create grievances for teachers, students and parents. In order to eliminate these grievances immediately, earthquake-resistant schools should be strengthened or renewed as soon as possible.
5 SCHOOLS ARE EMPTYED IN ÇORLU
Stating that 5 schools in Çorlu district were evacuated after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş and affecting 11 provinces, Dr. Yüceer said, “It has been decided to demolish Alipaşa Primary School and Türkgücü Primary and Secondary School in Çorlu, and to strengthen the buildings of Şahinler Secondary School, Gazi Primary School and Uncular Primary School. In the trainings that will start school after the midterm break, 7 thousand 917 students from the schools where the decision to evacuate have been transferred to other schools,” he said.
Awaiting MINISTRY APPROVAL FOR 17 SCHOOLS
CHP’s Yüceer continued his words as follows: “On the other hand, while our questions were left unanswered or incompletely answered, the news was that 62 schools in Tekirdağ were retrofitted against earthquakes, but surveys continue throughout the province, 11 schools were retrofitted, 13 schools were in the tender process, and 17 schools were It was also stated that the approval of the Ministry is awaited for this. Reinforcement should be completed first in schools where retrofitting is ongoing, tenders should be made for schools that are in the tender process, and approval should be given immediately for 17 schools awaiting approval from the ministry.”
